Obama Clinches Democratic Nomination; Clinton Refuses To Concede

On Tuesday, June 3, 2008, Barak Obama of Illinois won the democratic primary in Montana by a margin of 57 percent to Hillary Clinton’s 42 percent. Hillary Clinton of New York won the South Dakota democratic primary with a margin of 55 percent to Obama’s 44 percent.

Obama obtained the 2,118 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination for president. Obama became the first black democratic presidential nominee.

Clinton refused to concede. Clinton told supporters, “This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight.”

On Tuesday, May 20, 2008, Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York won the democratic primary in Kentucky 65%-30% versus Barack Obama. Barack Obama of Illinois won the democratic primary in Oregon 58%-42% versus Hillary Clinton.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2008, Hillary Clinton of New York won the democratic primary in Indiana by a little over 22,000 votes. Barack Obama of Illinois won the democratic primary in North Carolina by 56% versus Clinton’s 42%.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2008, Hillary Clinton of New York won the Pennsylvania Democratic Primary. Clinton won 55% of the Democratic vote in Pennsylvania versus Barack Obama of Illinois’s 45%.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York won democratic primaries in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island. Barack Obama of Illinois won the democratic primary in Vermont.


John McCain of Arizona won republican primaries in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Mike Huckabee exited the presidential race. McCain clinched the Republican GOP nomination.
