On Tuesday, November 11, 2008, Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States of America. Obama became the first black president-elect. Obama gave his victory speech at Chicago’s Grant Park in front of 125,000 people. More than 136.6 million Americans voted. 64% of eligible voters voted which is the best in at least 44 years.

Obama had 52.3% (62,682,546) of the popular vote versus 46.4% (55,543,552) for McCain. In the Electoral College count, the tally was 338 to 162 in favor of Obama.

On Tuesday, June 3, 2008, Barak Obama of Illinois won the democratic primary in Montana by a margin of 57 percent to Hillary Clinton’s 42 percent. Hillary Clinton of New York won the South Dakota democratic primary with a margin of 55 percent to Obama’s 44 percent.

Obama obtained the 2,118 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination for president. Obama became the first black democratic presidential nominee.

Clinton refused to concede. Clinton told supporters, “This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight.”

The United States of America is going through an energy crisis. The Energy Crisis started a few years ago during the George W Bush Jr. Republican administration. President Bush has spoken multiple times about the energy problem but has taken no real action to relieve the problem. The energy crisis has gotten worse with the price of a barrel of oil rising above $100. The rising oil prices will likely continue.

Which Presidential candidate will have the solution for the energy crisis? I would not count on the Republicans because they do not care about the high energy prices. The Republicans want energy prices to go up. The Republicans have done nothing in the past 8 years. The Democrats will be the better choice.
